The Year in Pictures

A cold start to the year which prompted a senior Councillor's reminiscences about winters past. It ended much the same as John Gledhill's picture shows, although we did get some nice bits in between, especially for the Street Fayre which was a welcome change from last year.

There was a fire at the school and we had an election too. Among the winners were our MP, Jeremy Wright and another Mr. “Right” (Roger this time) was elected to the District Council. He's now served the Village as Councillor for more than 19 years. Another winner was Katie Barritt who reached the final of the School Chef of the Year.

Both the Horticultural Society Spring and Autumn shows were highly successful. David Smith won the Banksian medal and the Challenge Cup and Bruce Watson won the Crabbe Cup.

Three new PCSO's joined the local police team during the year:

Anna
Hayley
& Claire.

Wendy was ordained priest in Coventry Cathedral, Ginny Davis performed “Family Matters” at the school

& Chris Baker opened her new art and craft gallery in The Precinct.

On the transport scene the Youth Bus made its first appearance over the holidays, and the Lions aired their posh new bus.

West's celebrated their centenary with a vision of transport circa 1910, and a CAT fell into the river!

Wellesbourne RFC got some silverware together with a new strip for this season, a Chedham's yard spade made its first TV appearance and on Kate's visit to the Amasango School she was able to meet both pupils and elephants.

Finally some of our brave girls bared all (well almost all) to help a friend. The resulting calendar is very revealing and in the best possible taste. Not only do you get 15 months for the price of 12 but you get 17 lovely ladies too and only £10! So this year my customary tasteful nudes are of the home-grown variety and all the better for it.

What a village, always something going on to help someone else. May God bless you all and your efforts in the coming year and may 2011 be an equally newsworthy and stimulating year.
