Congratulations
to Cyril and Margaret Clifford whose diamond wedding anniversary falls on the
tenth of June. They met when Margaret was with the Women's Land Army and Cyril
was working on a farm near his home town of Stratford. They married in
Leamington where Margaret was born and grew up. After periods living at
Offchurch, Warwick, Barford and Stratford they finally settled in Walton forty
seven years ago. Cyril then worked at Walton Farm until his retirement.
They have four children, Stuart, Peter, Margaret and Wendy, ten grandchildren and
four great grandchildren. Also in the early years at Walton they acted as
foster parents to several children. Margaret likes reading Sudoku and knitting
while Cyril enjoys gardening and breeding budgies and canaries which he keeps
in his aviary. Both enjoy music (particularly classical), card playing, bingo
and holidays. When they were younger they were very fond of ballroom dancing.
Cyril and Margaret will be having a party with family and friends on the thirteenth
and will be enjoying a hot air balloon flight at a later date. We send them our
very best wishes as they celebrate sixty years together.

A WALK FOR MATTHEW
Kate and Andy Smith moved from Tiddington to Wellesbourne in 1985. Andy's job with IBM
brought them to this area from London in 1982. Kate worked for the RSC until the arrival of Matthew in 1986. Abigail followed
in 1988. Their move to Wellesbourne was only intended to be temporary, but
somehow they are still in the same house on the Dovehouse 25 years on. A
friendly village and great neighbours may have something to do with that.
Kate was involved with the mother and toddler group that used to meet at the Sports
and Social Club, and provided the name Bumps and Daisies (now called Muddy Puddles)
which Matthew and Abigail both enjoyed. Kate now devotes much of her time to
training and competing with her Labradors (www. ardenbrook.force9.co.uk) .
The household has four at the moment, plus one cat who is in charge. Andy
recently retired from IBM and is deciding what to do next. Andy has been
involved in the community for some time. He maintains the e-mail distribution
list for the local Neighbourhood Watch, is on the development team for the
proposed memorial wall at St Peter's Church, and is the Data Officer for the
Liberal Democrats in this constituency.
In September last year Matthew was tragically killed in a road accident in
Stafford where he worked. Matthew had a bright future ahead of him as a
physicist with AREVA, the French energy company. He
was a gentle and civilised person, very much concerned with society and how to
improve things. He was a strong advocate of the NHS and a committed blood
donor. In his memory, and in support of the Blood Service, Andy is walking from
Imperial College London to AREVA in Stafford. The
walk starts on June 13th: more details can be found at www.centrillium.force9.co.uk .
Andy hopes to encourage more people to give blood, or to make a contribution to
the NHS Blood and Transplant Trust, charity number 1061771. Regular donation
sessions are run at HRI, and you can easily book online at www.blood.co.uk . As the advert says -
“Do something amazing, give blood”.
