Note that since we lost the site, some pages have not yet been restored, and pages from 2005 and earlier are not available. These will be shown with a grey background until I can get them restored (unless you're using Firefox or similar).
Exceptions are Norman's do and Alicia's birds. Your webmaster is busy on other things at the moment, but watch this space for more of Simon's pictures.
-
2002 Photo Comp
- a set of 4 pictures of Wellesbourne, presumably part of a competition. We featured a set of links to them over several months.
Go there.
- Wildlife pictures
- these are line drawings; Pam submitted one a month over a few months. For more of her sites see More About Wellesbourne. You can look at the picture on its own (enlarged in some cases) or in context.
- Profiles
- each month we showcase a member of the community who deserves recognition. Here’s a summary with pointers back to the original articles so you can read all about them.
- Norman’s Leaving Do
- when our previous vicar, Canon Norman Howes retired in February 2003, we had a big party, and his son Simon took lots of photos. You can join the Ofoto club (for free) and check out all 40, or look at a selection here (click on a picture to see it enlarged).
- Other Events
- photo opportunities which we captured and wrote about - you can go back and read about them:
- Birds: Indonesia
- life for our residents isn’t always confined to Wellesbourne: Alicia Leow-Dyke has ventured much further afield and has brought back some colourful pictures of some of the birds native to that region. We reported on her adventures in
January and
February 2004.
Click on the Thumbnail to see a close-up image; click on the English Name for the original picture in context.
You may be interested to know that the team Alicia worked with in Indonesia went on to some more islands and on one, Wangi Wangi, they may have discovered a new species, similar to the Pale-bellied White-Eye and the Lemon-bellied White-Eye (Zosterops chloris), but with slightly different markings and features; they are carrying out DNA tests to determine whether it is a new species. See the article “Mystery Bird Discovered...” in the National Geographic.
Birds: Local - closer to home a Wellesbourne resident has sent in a picture of some thrushes. “Generally thrushes are scarce but in our garden we have frequently had one since January; in February we had two, and in March we have THREE - one on the table, one on the fence and one by the lamp.” Click on the Thumbnail to see a medium-sized image; click on the comment for a screen size image.
Birds: Glossary - no pictures, but a whole lotta birds: ever wanted to cross-reference bird names in English/ Latin/ French...? Well, here is a
list of birds as spotted in a marshland in Charente Maritime, south west France, with their names in 5 languages.
- Wellesbourne Past and Present
- more of Simon Howes' photos: click on a picture to see it enlarged. We don't have much detail on these, so if you can identify dates and exact places, please let me know - Peter.

Following the death in 2005 of Thom Watson, photographic duties are shared by Norman Biddington, Eric Lomax and Andy Sheppard, who runs a photo studio in Wellesbourne.
If you can think of any more pictures you’d like to see on this site, please send them to me by any of the usual means: e-mail, disc, paper and I’ll get them published in due course. - Peter
