Prescription for
MURDER!
A WADS Production
19/20th November
In the seemingly quiet town of Bere Knighton there is never a dull moment for Dr
Richard Forth. Not only does he have a hectic work schedule and an awkward
friendship with his ex-girlfriend, but his wife, Barbara, has sudden
unexplained illnesses. The best of medical minds don't seem to be able to help.
She is constantly ill and nobody knows what is wrong with her. When Eric
Dawson, a stranger, claims to have known Richard's second fiancée - a woman
Richard claims does not exist - Barbara's health worsens and she isn't the only
one. With bad luck spreading almost as quickly as bad news, it seems somebody
is out to kill Barbara, and anyone else who gets in their way. The characters
are now walking a lethal maze of razor sharp twists and turns; a deadly puzzle.

Stour Singers
Christmas Music in St Edmund's, Shipston, Saturday 11 December 2010 at 7.30pm
The celebrated Orchestra of the Swan is visiting Shipston again on 11 December 2010
to join Stour Singers in a splendid programme for Christmas designed &
directed by Richard Emms, the choir's founder conductor. There are familiar
carols for everyone to sing and some really lovely choral pieces but the
highlight of the evening is Benjamin Britten's dramatic cantata ‘Saint Nicolas’.
This depicts the legends of the life of the Bishop of Myra, patron-saint of children
and travellers. Britten wrote it for the centenary celebrations of Lancing
College in 1948 and it involves the whole assembly - choirs, audience, chamber
orchestra, and virtuoso parts for the percussionists and the tenor soloist,
Richard Dowling, as Nicolas.
Do come and take part yourselves - Britten composed several community pieces
and the audience role in Saint Nicolas is vital & invigorating.
Tickets £12.50 (accompanied children free) from choir members, R. Clark, 27
High St, Shipston-on-Stour and at the door. Visit our website:

In Case it Rains in Heaven
13 November - 12 December 2010
At Compton Verney Gallery
The Chinese have believed for centuries that, when people die, they will need to take
earthly possessions with them into the afterlife. This tradition continues
today, with relatives creating and burning paper versions of personal objects
including money, cars and even iPods. Kurt Tong's rich, highly-coloured
photographs document the creation of these fascinating paper objects before
they are burnt. The photographs are seen alongside Compton Verney's historic
Chinese bronzes, themselves originally used for ceremonial offerings for the dead.

Wellesbourne Choral Society
The Choir has been very
successful in its recruitment drive this year with nine new singers who have
come along to see if they would like to join. We very much hope that they are
enjoying the experience and will become paid up members.
Unfortunately, the music
festival scheduled for 18 September was cancelled but it may be rearranged for
early in 2011.
Rehearsals for the Christmas
concerts are well underway, with some pieces going better than others! The
concerts will have a mixture of Christmas songs and carols followed by a modern
cantata called “Night of Miracles” written by the American composer, John W.
Peterson. In this, there are lots of tuneful choruses for the whole choir but
also some short solo pieces and the music is then linked by short readings from
the Christmas story.
There will be two
performances. The first at St. George's Church, Newbold Pacey on Friday 3
December starting at 7.30pm; the second at St. Peter's Church, Wellesbourne on
Friday 10 December also starting at 7.30pm. Tickets will cost £7 for adults;
accompanied school children are free and interval refreshments will be
included. Any profit from this concert will enable the choir to buy new music
so that it can continue to offer a wide variety of entertainment.
If you want any further
information about the choir, please have a look at our new website:-

Tailpiece
A farmer who grew watermelons was doing pretty well, but some local kids would
sneak into his watermelon patch at night and eat his watermelons. The farmer
came up with a clever idea that he thought would scare the kids away for sure. He
made up a sign and posted it in the field: “Warning! One of the
watermelons in this field has been injected with cyanide.”
That night the kids saw the sign and they ran off to plot revenge. Next morning
there were no watermelons missing, but a new sign said: “Now there are two!”
