St Peter’s Tiddlers Pre-School
Welcome back to a new term and a big welcome to four new starters joining us this January.
We had an enjoyable Christmas. The term ended with a Christmas church service led
by Rev'd Wendy where the children sang their favourite songs and carols to their
families. We also had a party on the last day of term.
The staff would like to take this opportunity to thank all the shops and businesses
in Wellesbourne who gave raffle prizes. The raffle was drawn at the fashion
show and was a great success. Also thank you to continued parental and
grandparental support. This money has allowed us to continue valuable staff training.
If you are interested in a place for your
child at Tiddlers pre-school from September 2012 we are registered to care for
children from 2 years 6 months. To obtain a waiting list form and prospectus
please call Karen on 07876 764160 or call into the church rooms next to St
Peter's from 9.30 onwards any weekday morning in the term time.
Did you hear that helicopter a few Fridays ago? No not the usual ones that potter
about from our airfield but the very noisy one that was looking in your gardens
with a very strong searchlight! Well it was of course the police looking for
the culprits of a break-in. I understand that there has been a spate of similar
occurrences, not only in Wellesbourne. Maybe the culprits are banking on less
police cover, or just dark nights, I don't know, but it's a good opportunity
for us all to tighten up on our house security and watch out for anything
remotely suspicious. It is a known fact that burglars look for the easy option,
and sadly there are plenty of them: they will be less likely to stop by your
house if it looks secure. This brings me to the topic of House Alarms. For
peace of mind and an excellent deterrent, an alarm does make sense. There are
various types: the best but most expensive is the monitored alarm. Whether you
are at home or away in the event of an incident, this will connect either to
the police or a security firm. However for less outlay a straightforward system
can be purchased. I am not able to recommend any companies personally, however
your committee are going to approach some well known companies and see if they
will attend a meeting in the village to demonstrate their product. If you would
be interested in attending, please let me know. A message on my answer
phone (841819) would be fine. Smart Water is of course an added deterrent and
available from myself. A recent event should bring home to us all, the
necessity to make our homes less inviting. A burglar on being convicted of a
house break in was told to write and apologise to his victim. His reply was
that he wouldn't apologise because they had almost invited him in: what person
on their right mind he said, leaves lights on at night, curtains open
displaying their possessions and a back window unlocked? That says it all!

Wellesbourne & District
I hope you all had a
wonderful Christmas. On behalf of the Wellesbourne & District Lions, I
would like to take this opportunity to wish everybody a very happy New Year
particularly with the difficult economic times that we all face in 2012. The
Lions would like to pass on their thanks to everybody who has supported our
events during 2011 and with your help are extremely pleased to have been able
to give financial support to so many good causes, both individuals and charities.
The lions along with Santa have really enjoyed meeting you all, out and about on
the Christmas floats and at the carols in the precinct. Thank you all for your
outstanding support. A considerable sum of money has been raised for local
charities. The actual amount raised will be reported later.
The Lions were very pleased to be involved in the Christmas Tree festival held in Wellesbourne
Methodist Church on the weekend of 3rd & 4th December. It was a wonderful
sight seeing such a large number of trees, all illuminated and ornately decorated.
Best wishes for 2012

Stour Singers
Handel's ‘Messiah’ in St Edmund's, Shipston, on 3 December 2011 was a sell-out success
for Stour Singers. Richard Emms guided the singers and the Cherwell Orchestra to
bring out all the drama and also the humour in Handel's music. The highlight of
the choral singing was undoubtedly the joyous ‘Hallelujah Chorus’ in which
Richard Emms included the four soloists, and the entire audience stood, many
singing along with the choir from the pews.
The occasion was a reunion for the soloists who had all taken part in ‘Messiah’ in
Truro Cathedral in 2009. Apart from baritone, Rodney Clarke, currently at Paris
Opera, the other soloists came here from Cornwall. One visitor said the
audience was mesmerised by the soloists. Certainly the whole assembly gave rapt attention throughout. This was especially evident in
Rodney Clarke's ‘Behold, I tell you a mystery’ and in his faultless duet, ‘The
Trumpet shall sound’ with Chris Cox on trumpet.
It was a most memorable evening and a splendid preparation for Christmas.
This concert was supported by the Birmingham & Black Country Community Foundation
on behalf of the Mid-Counties Co-Operative Community Fund.
The next concert is on 5th May 2012 at 7.30pm in St Edmund's, Shipston,
a Handel-Haydn programme featuring Haydn's Creation Mass. Rehearsals start at
7pm on Thursday 12th January 2012. New members are welcome
(particularly tenors!) No auditions. Please contact Vic Twyman, tel: 01451
870361 for further details.

158 new homes planned for the Red hill Nursery site
The major issue for decision is the plan for the development of 158 houses on the
former Red Hill nursery site, between Walton Road and the A429 towards
Ettington. This we believe will be the largest development in the Village since
the Dovehouse Estate in the 1970's and 80's, and will make a significant impact
on the demand for services. The scheme includes both housing for sale and for
social housing, and a scheme of housing which will incorporate the provision of
care, intended for older people. The developer has held a number of open days
and consultation sessions in the village.
At the Council Meeting a number of questions were raised, including concerns about
changes to the road system, walking and cycling access to the centre of the
village, and what the demand for further housing with care might be. The Council
was asked to seek confirmation that increases in demand for Health and
Education services could be catered for.
The Parish Council was required to make its comments to the District Council by
26th December – an extremely tight timetable. A special meeting was held on
13th December to decide what the response should be. I have little doubt that
this will be a major topic for discussion in the months to come.
Vacancy for a Parish Councillor
Three people have applied to be co-opted on to the Parish Council to fill the current
vacancy. They will all be interviewed by the Parish Council, and the outcome
announced at the next meeting of the Council. Thanks very much to them for
their interest and desire to contribute to the community in this way. The whole
Council will be re-elected in May 2012, so there will be an opportunity.
Future Meetings
The next meeting of the Parish Council will be
on 3rd January 2012 at the Methodist Hall at 7.30. All are welcome.
The dates of Committee Meetings are not yet determined but will be on the Parish
Council website, as are Agendas and Minutes of all meetings.
