IN BRIEF

CAN YOU HELP?

Due to quite a few of our volunteers being ill we are urgently in need of volunteers to help at the Myton Hospice Shop on Warwick Road

You can be any age, work any hours but it would be better if you can do half a day from 9 to 1 or 1 to 4.30 Monday to Saturday. Or you can be a 'Call on' that's someone we ring when people are ill or away on holiday. We would love some young people too and you can fit it into school hours 9.30 to 12 or whatever you can manage. Please come and give it a try, we are a nice friendly group of people you'll be sure of great welcome.

Work in the sorting section or on the till, training is always given.

Ring Hilary 840713 for more info. Or call in the shop for an application form.

“While not quite a win, it was certainly a triumph” I would like to say thank you to everyone who voted for me on May 6th. It was really very heartening to know that I had so much support in the Wellesbourne ward and personally it meant a great deal to me. As many will already know, I was unsuccessful in winning the election, but my supporters and I put up an incredibly strong fight and the results of the election were very close indeed. I also want to say a big thank you to everyone who helped by delivering leaflets over the past few weeks and all those who helped on the day.

I am very proud of the result we achieved. We were only 282 votes short of winning, which proves we had a very high level of support in the Wellesbourne ward. While not quite a win, it was certainly a triumph and an excellent foundation from which to build on in the future.

I was extremely pleased to have been selected as the Conservative candidate for Wellesbourne, Moreton Morrell, Ashorne, Newbold Pacey and Walton. I hope to maintain my active involvement in village life and shall continue (in any way possible) to contribute positively towards the future betterment of our villages.

Thank you for all your kind support.

Cats & more cats

You may have seen some notices around the village about a small, elderly, tabby cat that had been sighted near the Co-op for several weeks. She was cared for temporarily by Sally Reeve who contacted the Cats Protection League in Leamington. Someone came from Stratford, collected the cat and cared for it, giving it first class shelter plus the necessary veterinary checks. In order to survive, the little cat had to have several teeth removed and others de-scaled. She was found to have mild kidney problems and had to be fed on special food... She was then delivered safely (and at no cost) back to her owner where we hope she will live for the rest of her days without wandering off again! Sally says, “Bravo the Cats Protection League. They did a marvellous job and a big thank you to 'Sandy' who organised all this.”

I reckon many thanks are due to Sally as well.

Recently on TV there have been ads by AgeUK highlighting the fact that there are up to a million lonely older people in the UK. This set me thinking. I am a volunteer with Cats Protection Mid Warwickshire Branch and we always have a number of older cats in our care which are difficult, if not impossible, to re-home because of their age. We do not put cats to sleep just because they are older so we have come up with an initiative which we are piloting, especially in the Wellesbourne area, to see if we can give the cats a good home.

If you are retired or at home all day and would like to have a cat for company you could help.

You would be partnered up by a Branch volunteer who lives in your community if you need help with transporting the cat to the vets, and also with the collection of cat food and litter provided by the Branch. All veterinary and food costs are paid for by Cats Protection, so these cats can have a loving home whilst they are in our care. If you are interested and would like to find out more, please ring Sandy on 01926 334849 and leave a message or e-mail midwarwickcats@hotmail.com ,

St Peter's Tiddlers Pre-School

Floating my boat

As the weather improves and we look forward to the summer, the children are enjoying their outdoor play and walks.

This half term the children have been looking at “things that move” and have had great fun making boats and testing them to see if they float. They have also been out and about on their “wellie walks” spotting cars, vans and motorbikes in the village.

The Jumble Sale in April was a great success and we would like to thank everyone who supported us. The fundraising enables us to fund additional equipment and resources to ensure that the children are able to learn and play in a stimulating and fun environment.

The next event which we are looking forward to is the Fashion Show, 7.30pm, Friday 16th July, at the Village Hall. This will be a great opportunity to see some familiar faces on the catwalk (all locally sourced!) and to buy some bargains for your summer holidays. High Street names such as Marks and Spencer, Per Una, Monsoon and White Stuff, to name a few, will be on sale at knock down prices. For more information or tickets please contact Lindsay on 471078.

Children’s Centre Update

At last building work on the children's centre has begun!

We hope to be offering services at the centre by January, but outreach services are already taking place in the village hall and local villages.

During building work a mobile library will be operating in the village hall car park. For more information call Debbie Muitt on 07780 672602 or email debbiemuitt@warwickshire.gov.uk .
