IN August

Prayer for the Village

At St Peter's this month we are praying for all those who live in Beaufort Close, Hammerton Way, Hampdon Way, Hotchkiss Close, Lancaster Close, Lincoln Close, Waterloo Close, Wellington Close and Whitworth Close.

Each month, in a 12-month period, we shall pray for a different area in the parishes of Wellesbourne and Walton after which the cycle will start all over again.

Subjects for Summer Sundays

At the evening services during August we shall be considering the women of the Bible. The good, the bad, the beautiful and the completely anonymous, they all have their influences on Biblical history and culture.
6.30pm at the St Peter's except the 1st Sunday which is 5.30 at Walton. We look forward to seeing you and you'll be very welcome.

Amasango School

A big thank you to everyone who made donations totalling £340 for the Amasango School for street children in South Africa during their Principal Jane Bradshaw's recent visit. I am spending time at the school in August, and will bring up to date information on my return.

Disguised Blessings

I was recently given this short reflection, which is a very thought-provoking prayer and helps us to stop and think of the many blessings in our lives.

Generous God, I am thankful for:

  • The taxes I pay - because it means that I am employed.
  • The mess after a party - because it means that I have been surrounded by friends.
  • The clothes that fit a little too snugly - because it means that I have enough to eat.
  • My shadow who watches me work - because it means that I am out in the sunshine.
  • A lawn that needs mowing, windows that need cleaning and gutters that need fixing - because it means that I have a home.
  • All the complaining I hear about the Government - because it means that we have freedom of speech.
  • The space that I find at the far end of the car park - because it means that I am capable of walking.
  • The person behind me in church who sings off key - because it means that I can hear.
  • The piles of laundry and ironing - because it means that I have clothes to wear.
  • Weariness and aching muscles at the end of the day - because it means that I have been busy.
  • The alarm that goes off in the early morning hours - because it means that I am alive.

For all your many blessings, especially those that come to us in disguise, we thank you God.
