Wellesbourne
This year, being a devotee of the “New Year
Start Something New” school of action, I turned up at Wellesbourne Women’s Institute.
Hosted at Wellesbourne Village Hall every 2nd
Wednesday of the month at 7.30pm, I was immediately welcomed by an interesting
and interested group of lovely ladies of all ages, and I settled down to learn
something new from the guest speaker.
Every month someone interesting comes along to
share their passion. January we were entertained by a unique collection of
masks, enhanced by the stories behind the acquisition of each one, from
Christine Farmer. February saw a lively demonstration of Line Dancing, led by
Becky and her ladies from the Silver Dollar Line Dance Co (who meet each week
at the Village Hall too). Encouraged to join in, we mastered a simple routine
resulting in lots of laughter and a surprising 10 from the judges! Keeeeep Dancin’!
At the March meeting we enjoyed learning about
“Dowsing for Health”, an ancient practice brought right up to date by our
fascinating speaker Fay Palmer. April beckons with George Hook’s insight into
“The Mother of Pearl Industry in Birmingham”.
In addition there are monthly coffee mornings,
Knit and Natter sessions and Rummikub (no, I didn’t know anything about that
either but now I’m hooked!) Want to learn more and expand your social circle?
Come and discover all sorts of things are going on at the WI. I am so glad I
did! See you there!

Spring is here at last and we have a host of
bank holidays coming up over the next few weeks. First a late Easter break,
then the royal wedding, followed by two May bank holidays. A chance to get the
garden sorted, perhaps a spot of decorating or better still, taking the
opportunity to relax and unwind.
The lions have three events coming up which I
would like to bring to your attention, starting with ‘Lion Racing’ on Saturday
2nd April at Barford memorial hall. Tickets for the evening are £7.50 to
include a hot supper and a dessert. The event opens at 6.30pm for a prompt
7.00pm start. The evening promises to be great fun and all the proceeds will be
going to ‘Smile Train – A charity offering cleft palate surgery for desperate
children’. For more details and to buy tickets please contact Barbara or Terry
Offiler on 01926 624153.
On the weekend of Friday 6th April to Sunday
8th April the Lions will be running a raffle at Wellesbourne Co-op. A number of
prizes will be on offer and all of the money raised will be used to support
local charities. Please look out for us.
Finally the lions will be holding our annual
charter night on Saturday 7th May. This year’s dinner/dance will be held at
Ettington Chase hotel. For more information and details of how to purchase
tickets to join with us for this prestigious occasion, please contact Terry
Offiler on 01926 624153.
