“Joseph update”
Following the highly successful ‘Joseph & the
Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat’ concert at St Peter’s Church, Wellesbourne in
May this year, Wellesbourne Choral Society are delighted to announce that the
final profit has been revised upwards and £700 was divided between Acorns
Children’s Hospice and the Dampha Shipman Nursery School in Gambia. The society
is most grateful to their loyal audience for helping to make this fund raising
venture so successful and also to the vicar and churchwardens of St Peter’s
Church for allowing them to use the church.
‘Joseph & the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat’
The society also gratefully appreciates the grant awarded to the choir by the
Parish Council. This money will be used to offset expenses, enabling more of
the funds raised at concerts to be donated to charity.
After giving their voices a rest during the summer months, the choir will resume
rehearsals for the Christmas concerts on Tuesday 6 September at 7.30pm in the
Methodist Church, Bridge Street, Wellesbourne. The choir has been complimented
on the friendliness between its members and if you enjoy singing, why don’t you
come and give us a try? The choir particularly require singers for the alto,
tenor and bass sections and you can attend some rehearsals in September before
deciding whether to join.

A History of
CHRISTIANITY
in fifteen objects
From September this year until August 2012, Deddington Parish Church, in association
with the Faculty of Theology at Oxford University, will provide an introduction
to the history of Christianity for the Deddington Deanery through fifteen
objects, presented by leading international scholars from Oxford and elsewhere.
Following Neil MacGregor last year in his History of the World in 100
Objects, this series seeks to explore the material, rather than intellectual,
legacy of faith throughout the centuries, and examine how Christianity has
shaped, and been shaped by, political, economic and social changes since the first century AD.
With speakers including the Bishops of Oxford and Gibraltar among many others, the
series is an unprecedented opportunity for some of the nation’s leading church
historians and theologians to convey their learning to a popular audience.
Admission to each talk is free, and the talks will also be available online, on
www.historyofchristianity.org.uk .
The series begins on 5 September at 7pm with the Bishop of Oxford talking about ‘The Cross’.
For more information, please contact the
Rev’d Dr Dan Inman on 01869 338582 /

Charlecote Park
This year the Tuesday Children’s Club during August has been a great success with
more children than ever enjoying a wide range of activities. With five
Tuesdays in August, the last one on August 30th promises to be even better,
with sheepdogs and ducks! Children have also been helping with the Charlecote bees.
The Victorian kitchens have proved a great attraction to children and adults alike.
Much of the time the fire is burning and the cooks are busy preparing
traditional delights such as Welsh Cakes and Soda bread while making jam and
even experimenting with Victorian style hand cream and soap.
During September, a Heritage Open Day on Saturday 10th September will give a free
taste of Charlecote to many extra visitors. On 11th September you can “Meet the
team”, speak to the staff and find out what they do to care for this amazing place.
The falconry experts will be bringing birds to the Park on Sunday 18th September.
Day passes for fishing are now available: please contact the office.
Prize winning rams are coming to Charlecote and will help to improve the breeding
stock. The first one, Henry, has already arrived, and looks very handsome!
Thinking a little ahead, the popular Deer Park Safaris will be available at weekends and
half term in October – details will be available later.
Looking even further ahead – Calendars and diaries are in and Christmas cards are
selling well! There are gifts to buy for everyone in the shops.
For further details, please contact Charlecote Park on 01789 470277 or visit:

Tailpiece
A fifteen year old girl from the remote far north and her grandparents had never been to
the big city before and while granddad rested his feet in a convenient bar,
granny and grand-daughter explored the shops. They were in one of these huge
shopping centres and were spellbound by all the beautifully dressed windows and
the immense variety of goods on offer, everything. But what really caught their
attention was this thing with two shiny, silver walls that could move apart and
then slide back together again.
The girl asked, “What’s that Grandma?” and
Gran, never having seen a lift before answered, “I don't know girl, I’ve never
seen anything like it before.”
While they were watching, spellbound, an
elderly gentleman with a stick came past pushing a very large old lady in a
wheelchair. The pair moved up to the moving walls and pressed a button. The
walls opened, and the old chap, still pushing the lady, rolled between them
into a small room.
The walls closed, and girl and her mother
watched the small numbers above the walls light up sequentially. They continued
to watch until it reached the last number, and then the numbers began to light
in the reverse order.
Finally the walls opened up again and a tall, bronzed, broad shouldered, very
handsome, young man emerged with a beautiful, shapely blonde on his arm and
strode across the concourse.
Grandma, not taking her eyes off the young
man, said quietly to her grand-daughter, "Go get your Grand-dad!"
