An honorary “Bloomer”

Wellesbourne in Bloom over the past few years have done well in the “Heart of England in Bloom” annual judging. Parish Councillor Tony Copeland who sadly recently died played an invaluable part in this.

Tony became our liaison with the Parish Council a few years ago. He helped us with so many things, helping us sorting out the issue of the village centre grass, devised a watering pump system so that we could pump water from containers in the back of our cars for the summer watering, planted trees around the village and outskirts, raised the money for the Chestnut Square planter from local residents, helped erect the barrier baskets, gave us so many contacts for help and so much more. His enthusiasm for the village never dwindled and we are so grateful that we had him on our side for the time that we did.

Rev Andy Laird

On Sunday August 7, Rev Andy Laird took his last Service as Minister of the Methodist Church. Afterwards we celebrated his ministry as we had lunch together. We will miss him, and we wish him all the best as he continues his ministry at Leamington.

Exciting New Web site for Wellesbourne

Wellesbourne based graphic designer Mick Stallard has just launched a brand new, vibrant and user friendly online business directory for the village and outlying areas.

Designed to enable quick access to local services it provides FREE listings for all. Mick says response so far as been very good with businesses not only taking advantage of the automatic FREE listing but also taking the option of linking directly to their own website, and for those without a website Mick offers an option of a ‘mini website’ giving a very affordable online presence without any long term commitments.

Once the site is well populated Mick will set up pages where local events and information can be displayed. To take a look and register for your FREE listing, log on to www.wellesbourne.co.uk .

Brownies

1st Wellesbourne Brownies went to Jubilee House in Oxford from 15-17th July for their annual pack holiday. Despite some very heavy showers the girls managed to embrace their theme of “I'm A Brownie, Get Me Out Of Here!” by abseiling, creating their own bugs and tackling an assault course. To receive their Pack Holiday Badge they had to keep a diary, and this is what three of them had to say about their weekend:

Friday is written by Charlotte, Saturday is written by Florence and Sunday is written by Annabelle.

Reaching Out in Prayer

You don't have to go to Church regularly to feel in need of a bit of prayer from time to time. We at St Peter's Church believe that prayer really can help. As we see ourselves as serving the whole village, not just our ‘signed up members’, we regularly pray for our community in Wellesbourne. One way we go about this, is by identifying particular streets to remember in our prayers every month – you might have seen the list on the back of the Wellesbourne and Walton News. Another way is to use a ‘prayer chain’, where anyone can phone in a request, anonymously if they wish, and within a few hours around 20 people will be praying for this need.

We are keen to reach out to the whole community. We want to let everyone in Wellesbourne know that God cares about them, and so do we. We would like to let everyone know how to use the prayer chain in case there is something they would like prayer for.

To take this forward, a small number of us will be visiting some of the roads we are praying for over the course of the next few months. We will leave a card with details of the prayer chain and offer a listening ear regarding anything you might want us to pray about.

Understandably, people can be unsure about speaking to people who call at the door. Please be reassured that we will never:

  • Try to sell you anything or ask you to give money
  • Ask to come into your home
  • Make a note of any details about you unless you ask us to
  • Keep coming round just because you have spoken to us once
  • Pressure you to speak with us if you are don't want to or are too busy
  • Ask you personal questions or try to influence your views.

We look forward to meeting you over the next few months.
