NEWS ROUND
I would like to think that we are all getting wise to being hoodwinked into parting
with our hard earned money as result of a scam, but as soon as I settle
down and relax something new comes to my attention. This particular scam is not
easy to spot so I give full marks to our committee member who could have
been a victim. He was parked in Stratford, for a few minutes, quite
legally whilst his wife popped into the bank. He did notice a man hovering
around with a camera, but thought nothing of it. However a couple of days later
surprise, surprise a parking fine arrived in the post. At first glance it
looked genuine, clearly labelled ‘Parking Contravention Enforcement Notice
Stratford upon Avon’ a few mentions of DVLA and parking regulations. The demand
was for, wait for it... £150! to be paid within 28 days or £75 if paid
within 14 days to an address in Liverpool and his suspicions were raised. So
after a few phone calls he discovered it was a well organised scam by a team
operating nationwide. Apparently, for a small fee DVLA will give the address
related to a car. (I find that quite amazing.) So be aware and pass this
to your friends and family and help stop the scam.
Now that the police are having to cut down on their activities it is even more
important that we in Neighbourhood Watch are more active and to this end would
like to have coordinators in every street in Wellesbourne. Each month I will
make an appeal to cover more streets, so this month if you live in Loxley
Close or Westfield Crescent and would be prepared to deliver Neighbourhood
Watch leaflets to about 20 houses once or twice a year please contact me as
soon as possible. Many thanks.

St Peter’s Tiddlers
Hopefully everyone had a great summer break and is raring to go. We would like to welcome
back children already at pre-school and also a number of new children joining us in September.
Our last half term finished with a church service led by Reverend Wendy where the
children sang some of their favourite songs to Mums, Dads and Grandparents, and
on the last day of term we had a party and said some teary farewells to those children
leaving to begin primary school. We wish them all well. The staff would like to
thank all our parents for their kind words and gifts at the end of a busy year.
As you may have noticed the area outside the church rooms looks amazing: this is
where our outdoor play is based and the children have enjoyed watching this
happen. We owe a massive thank you to Wellesbourne in Bloom and the
Warwickshire Wildlife Trust for allowing us to be included in this project. It
is great to see the area being used by the community on a daily basis. The
children have already benefitted from the sensory totem poles, herb wall and
bird feeding station. The children are responsible for filling the feeders and
we have been amazed how quickly they empty! We suspect our friendly grey
squirrels are partly to blame. The children made a welcome banner for the
judges when ‘Wellesbourne in Bloom’ was judged and wish Heather and her team
well. Watch out for more exciting news from the outdoor area!
Thank you to St Peter’s and Wellesbourne Primary for letting us have stalls at their summer
fairs: we are a not for profit social enterprise so any money from fundraising
is fed straight back to pre-school to benefit the local community. Thank you
to all our parents and local businesses for their support.
We return to pre-school on Tuesday 6 September and are tucked away in the Church
rooms next to St Peter’s. If you are interested in a place at your village
pre-school for September 2012 you need to fill in a waiting list form. These
are available from the Church rooms notice board or from Karen on 07876 764160.
Alternatively you can drop in and watch us learning through play any term
time morning from 10.00am; no appointment is necessary.

Guide Dogs
The new building at the National Breeding Centre
at Bishops Tachbrook is now finished and the staff and dogs have moved in from
the old Tollgate next door. There will be an official opening later in the year
and plans are being discussed for an open day for the public as many of you
have asked about a visit – So watch this space!
We all have various charity bags put through our
doors – some genuine, some not. Guide dogs have come up with an alternative.
Warwickshire County Council have placed a large container at the breeding
centre where anyone can take a bag of unwanted fabric items and shoes and the
Council pay Guide Dogs direct – ensuring the money goes to the right place. The
container is accessible weekdays 9-5 and is placed at the rear of the building.
Turn right, drive through the visitors’ car park, follow the road round to the
left and the skip is at the end of the road. If you can’t get there yourself
just give us a ring.

Tony Copeland The first task for members of the Council was
to pay tribute to the work Tony Copeland had performed for Wellesbourne, both
as a member, and outside. Tony had thrown himself into his Council work, and
had made a massive contribution to the Parish Plan. His work on the improvement
of flood defences, and his passion for trees will all leave a lasting mark for
us to remember him by.
Progress Report Chedham’s Yard: Work continues apace on the
restoration of the buildings.
Burial Ground The final work on

The Parish Plan has been adopted by
the District Council. The Village Design Statement is being revised, and will be completed shortly.
