REACHING FOR THE STARS

Wellesbourne Choral Society is preparing to deliver a Christmas Concert with an extra sparkle this year. The Society is delighted to have teamed up with Wellesbourne CE Primary School for the Wellesbourne performance of 'Stargazers' by Roger Jones, in St Peter's Church on Friday 12 December 2008.

Margaret Cox, Musical Director of the Choral Society, is keen to promote singing for all ages:- “We are a community choir. We sing to give pleasure, raise funds for local charities, and also because as members we gain tremendous enjoyment from choral singing. It is important to us that children are given the opportunity to discover the pleasure of singing in a choir, and we are thrilled that on this occasion we are able to share our concert with children from the Primary School.”

Wellesbourne C of E Primary School offers lots of musical opportunities to pupils, and is always keen to engage with the wider community. A group of year Key Stage 2 pupils, under the direction of Julie Barr, Music Co-ordinator at the school, will join the choral society for a number of pieces from this engaging work.

The concert will also feature pieces Handel's 'The King shall Rejoice', together with carols and Christmas songs.

Tickets will cost £7 per adult, and will be available from choir members, the school office and on the door. The Choral Society is keen for families to come and enjoy the evening, and is offering free entry to accompanying children at the Wellesbourne concert. If you are not able to attend the Wellesbourne concert, the Choral Society will also be performing at Barford St Peter's on 5 December.

If you would like to sing with Wellesbourne Choral Society, they would be delighted to hear from you. Please contact the musical director, Margaret Cox, on 01789 841826. Rehearsals take place on Tuesdays in the Methodist church Hall, from 7.30pm to 9.30pm.

Wellesbourne and District Lions Club

Well here we are, a new bod doing the odd job. So as a new correspondent I hope you will excuse any errors you may wish to find. Anyway my name is Robin Hammond and I have taken over this job from Ros who has flown off to Argentina for a few months; we look forward to her safe return.

What's happened in the past few months? The Raft race took place in June, this year on the correct date. We had over sixty competitors (double last year's entry) this year raising money for the 'Prince's Trust'. In August we assisted at Walton Fete with a stall: it was a lovely sunny day for a change. We have arranged loan of a wheelchair to someone who needed help, arranged the clearance of elderly ladies' front garden and many more community activities, which are routine to our busy club. Our Members were busy on the 19th of October with a collection on the M40 services; one of our members arranged a pair of newer lounge chairs to a local family. Our membership has increased, again with three new members: two ladies and one gentleman member.

So to the future. Dates for your Diary......

Saturday 8th November Coffee morning. St Peter's Church Hall Church Street, ten till one. Come and get some stocking fillers and goodies for Christmas. Entry £1 will include a coffee. Need transport? Contact one of the Lion numbers listed below.

And then return home. We are looking for an increase in numbers so if you have not been to one of our parties and would like to come please contact us on one of the numbers below. It's free. We look forward to seeing you.

MAY 4th next year A grand concert to raise money for the Myton Hospice. We, together with the Warwick Lions Club, will be holding a Concert in the Guy Nelson Hall in Warwick, a concert featuring the Midland Concert Orchestra, and the Choir Tarantara! Early notice, to let you make an entry in your Diary for next year. It will be a wonderful evening of light orchestral and choral music.

As a Lions club we strive to help as best we can within the community for the benefit of the area. If you need our help or know of anyone who does, please call us and we will try to help you. We can only help with things we know about.
