Girlguiding news

May 26th was a very special meeting for Skye when she made her promise as a Brownie. Skye had been a Rainbow Guide and moved up to Brownies when she was seven. At the present one in four 7-9 year old girls are Brownies so you see the movement is thriving. Some of you will remember the Promise you made as a Brownie but the wording has changed slightly over the years:

I Promise that I will do my best,
to love my God,
to serve the Queen and my country,
to help other people,
and to keep the Brownie Guide Law.

Brownies still earn badges although the syllabus has been brought up to date. The Brownies themselves requested designer, computer, science investigator and number fun badges, although the traditional hostess, house orderly, swimmer and craft badges are still there.

The photo at the top shows the Brownies with the origami cats they made as part of the craft badge.

The uniform has changed over the years but the ethos of Guiding is still the same. Thanks to all the adult volunteers who enable Guiding to take place in Wellesbourne. For more information contact District Commissioner Kate Skinner 01789 842148.

St. Peter’s Tiddlers

This is our final half term before the summer break and we have been learning about people who help us. We began by celebrating the great job our Dads do by making Fathers’ Day cards and gifts. We then went on to meet our hard working refuse collectors as we learnt about recycling and composting. We made a worm world and made our pre-school more efficient at recycling by sorting different materials. Following visits from the fire service and the traffic police we themed our role play accordingly and had lots of fun playing firemen and policemen.

The second part of the half term has seen us team up with Ra Ra, the noisy lion from Cbeebies; the children have all had a DVD to take home to watch and we have been doing lots of great activities based around the four R’s, repetition, rhythm, rhyme and retelling. This is a continuation of the work we have been doing this year highlighting 2011 as the Year of communication. The children have also been learning to sign. Following staff Makaton training the children have been doing ‘singing hands’ since February. We have all enjoyed learning fun new songs.

Finally good luck to all the children who will be leaving for primary school at the end of July. We will miss you all tremendously.

Tiddlers Pre-school is based at the church rooms from 9.15-12.15 weekdays term time only. We are registered to care for children from 2 years 6 months. From the term after your child’s third birthday provision is free for up to 15 hours per week. However there are now very limited spaces for 2011/2012. If you would like a prospectus or would like to visit the pre-school, please call Karen on 07876 764160 or Claire on 01789 841091. In 2009/2010 we received an outstanding OFSTED inspection.

The Will of God never takes you to where the Grace of God will not protect you.

This was a short Council Meeting, perhaps because there were no new planning applications to consider. A few members of the Council were absent for various reasons. Perhaps things are settling down to a regular pattern of items for decision.

Burial Ground – The design of the access has been submitted for planning permission.

The work to bring out this year’s version of the Index of shops and amenities has started.

A team has been formed and started work to look at how a Youth Service may be maintained in Wellesbourne. The County Council has agreed to enter into discussions about a business plan.

Her Majesty’s Diamond Jubilee
Over the weekend of 1st to 4th June 2012, a series of national events will be held to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee of Elizabeth II coming to the throne. The suggestion is that events are held in Wellesbourne. If you have any ideas, or are thinking of an event in your street, please let the Parish Office know on 841434.

The next meeting of the Parish Council will be on 5th July at the Methodist Hall at 7.30. All are welcome.

The Parish Council is very concerned about the reductions in public transport and the impact on our community, and is requesting members of the public to tell the Council of any impact of these reductions in services.
