Girlguiding News
Rainbow Guides prepared for
bonfire night by making chocolate apples. The picture shows Honor and Lily
anticipating eating their apples.
Later in the term two new
Rainbows will make their promises and the Unit will be full again. The girls
took part in the Remembrance Day Service and helped to plant bulbs with
Wellesbourne in Bloom in November. A musical evening is planned and the girls
hope to sing at the family service at the Methodist Church in December. The
Theme of the Girlguiding Tree at the Methodist Church Christmas Tree Festival
will be “Guiding Light” and the girls are making salt dough stars. The
term will end with a Christmas party shared with the Brownies.
2nd Wellesbourne Brownies have
also been busy packing boxes for Operation Christmas Child and thank the WI for
their contribution of knitted hats and scarves for the boxes.

Guide Dogs For the Blind
Thank you to everyone who supported our
recent Coffee Morning. It was lovely to see so many familiar faces and to catch
up on old friends.
Our canine friends did their bit and Marco
was definitely the Star of the Show meeting everyone so enthusiastically.
If anyone would like Christmas cards please contact Judith or myself:

Phishing, what a funny word,
but all users of the Internet will recognise this and I am sorry to say that
despite all our best efforts the fraudsters are getting more devious. I
recently had a disturbing email from a friend who allegedly had been robbed at
gun point whilst on holiday in Spain with his family and yes, you guessed it,
needed a couple of thousand Euros to get him home, could I help? Now this
friend is quite a whiz on computers, even rebuilt mine a few months ago, so you
would think not an obvious target. Nevertheless, the victim of hacking. Nearly
every one on his list suspected it as fraudulent (one person did admit
being on the way to the bank!) Things just didn't add up. His job meant he
would never be stranded, known not to be in Spain, grown up family in other
parts of the world and just the wrong turn of phrase, so no one was tempted to
reply. The fraudsters have been traced but will probably just move on. So here
are a few tips from those in the know. Password: use something quite
complicated with letters and numbers. If you forward or originate mail to a
number of people ALWAYS add BCC and delete any forwarded messages.
These emails generally originate in Spain or the Eastern Block and often use
the untraceable Western Union Bank. Finally, if you are in any doubt at the risk
of losing an email, DO NOT OPEN. Best of luck.

St Peter’s Tiddlers
We are delighted to report that the transition of the pre-school to a social
enterprise is now complete. We received our first OFSTED inspection as Tiddlers
pre-school LTD on 3 October 2011. Many thanks to a number of individuals who
have supported us during this period of change. The overall judgement was
‘good’ and we received nine areas of outstanding provision within this. Areas
where we were judged outstanding include:
- The quality of the provision in the Early Years foundation stage;
- The effectiveness of the setting's engagement with parents and carers;
- The extent to which children achieve and enjoy their learning;
- The effectiveness with which the setting deploys resources;
- The extent to which children adopt healthy lifestyles, make a positive contribution and develop skills
for the future.
We continue our strong links with St Peter's and thank them for their continued
support. The Church rooms are a lovely setting to work in and this was reflected
by OFSTED ‘Children thoroughly enjoy their time in the small and homely village
pre-school and develop close relationships with staff and with each other.’ If
you are interested in a place at Tiddlers from September 2012 please contact
Karen on 07876 764160 for a waiting list form.
On November 3rd we held an open evening to current and prospective parents: a
chance to find out more about the Early years foundation stage, look at
learning journals and ask any questions. We hope this was useful to all who attended.
Thanks to the RSPB we have been finding out how we can encourage more birds to our
outdoor area. They kindly sent us lots of resources from counting cards to
cuddly blackbirds! We made a camouflaged hide outside, binoculars to take on
our welly walks and bird cakes. The children were able to use the Wildlife
Explorers bird guide on their computer and learnt new bird counting songs!
As this is the last issue before we break up we would like to wish everyone a
happy and peaceful Christmas. News about Christmas fun will follow in January.
