MONEY CANNOT BUY ITLet me suggest a Christmas present you may wish to give which would not stretch the purse strings at all but could bring real peace of heart and mind. A long time friend of mine from our school days died a couple or so years ago and sadly never forgave his sister for some real or imagined wrong toward himself he thought her guilty of doing. Christmas for most is usually thought to be the time of peace and good will because it is the time all Christians celebrate it as the reason and purpose of the Saviour's Birth into our fractured world. There is probably disappointment and anger and many regrets about the past hidden within many but are we going to carry this burden to the end of our lives? We can be blinded by resentments for past wrongs we feel someone has done us and forget the many blessings we have received over the years. Forgiveness acknowledges the wrong done but makes the choice to let go of the resentment but it is at this point we may need some help. This is when one may feel like calling on ‘whatever God they believe in’ as the late Dave Allen would have said! One thing is pretty certain that it is less likely we make that decision to let go of feelings and thoughts if we are not convinced of the need. However I truly believe Christmas can really be a special season of grace simply because it is. Forgiveness like love must always be without limits. Fr David |
