Tea and take the weight of your feet

Now what would he really like for Christmas?

Open for business

I started to enthuse last week about the autumn colours but since then each day the woods have been lit up with a greater variety of yellow and gold through to brilliant orange, and it seems to be the general opinion that this year is the best ever. I have noticed several artists out with their easels doing their best to find a palette of colours that will do justice to the scene. But now as I write after a night of high winds, the lawns are strewn with a carpet of yellow - nice to look at but not a welcome sight to gardeners! So winter comes on as we go into the season of advent, preparing to receive the Christmas message which retains its value in the recession and will never be taken away however many cuts there may be in other areas of life.

Once again our efforts to raise money for the Church were blessed with fine weather and thankfully it was warm for the Christmas Fair. This has become something of a social occasion which brought in many friends new and old to do some Christmas shopping and to stock up the larder from all the Jane Spencer's Home Made Chocolates - 'Sheer Indulgence' is certainly the right description - and Take Two Cooks with all their lovely quiches and pies. Many of the stall holders have been supporting us for a long time and tell us that they always look forward to coming, knowing that they will get a warm welcome and great help from Ken in setting up their displays. Everything ran very smoothly on the day thanks to the hard work that was put in by the small band of helpers transporting tables, putting up the marquee, cleaning up the barn, doing the raffle and the 'squares', making sandwiches and serving the tea and coffee. Another great effort by our small community towards raising £1,414.35 in aid of the Church which will help towards the ever increasing Parish Share.

The last event of the year will be a Concert by the Walton Ensemble on Saturday 11th December at 7pm (please note the earlier time). No tickets required but there will be a collection at the end in aid of the Church. Do come and enjoy an evening's music 'in the round' - a varied programme with Bach's A Minor Violin Concerto as the highlight of the evening.
