Wellesbourne and Walton Horticultural Society 2012 Autumn Show
2.30pm Saturday 1st September in Wellesbourne Village Hall

One of the children’s (11 years old and under) classes will be a sunflower. We published the rules in April, as seeds need to be sown in April and May.

Sunflower competition details

1.     The sunflower should be one you have grown yourself (of course you can ask for some help from Mum, Dad, Granny or Granddad etc.)

2.     The sunflowers will be measured across the middle (Diameter) from petal tip to petal tip.

Sunflower with Diameter

3.     You will need to cut off the head of your sunflower (leaving a stem attached of no more than 30 cm) and bring it along to the village hall the evening before the show.

4.     Your sunflower should be placed in a watertight flat type box or seed tray so that it is easy for the judges to measure.

5.     The sunflower (genus Helianthus) can be any variety or shade but it would make sense to find out which variety seems to have the largest flower.

6.     The judges’ decision will be final.

7.     GET PLANTING and GROWING!!!!
