PEOPLE in Wellesbourne now have a new way to become active in the village.

Wellesbourne Action Group was set up to help solve residents' complaints about services and problems such as litter.

Following a suggestion from Stratford District Council active communities officer Paul Evans, its members set up health walks for older people.

WAG member Mike Podbury explained numbers had risen from five to 12 walkers in its first five weeks - and he had been among those who benefited.

He said: “It's too easy to say I should be going walking and just sit in the house, but this gives me a reason to go out and improve my fitness.”

Mr Podbury added there were plans for future riverside walks and to encourage younger people to help the disabled enjoy the outdoors.

The WAG Walk starts each Tuesday at 2pm from Wellesbourne Conservative Club in Church Street. Call 01789 841147 for information.
